Sailboat charter Seychelles

Last updated on 8 April 2025

What type of boat should you choose for your charter?

  • Monohull sailboat charter: a monohull sailboat will offer you a more sporty experience and will allow you to reach the most secret corners of the Seychelles, only accessible by sea. For adventure and thrill seekers, the monohull sailboat is for you.
  • Catamaran charter: if you are looking for a relaxing cruise in the Seychelles and want to prioritize space and comfort on your trip, we highly recommend a catamaran charter, which will offer you greater stability.
  • Motor yacht charter: more accessible and cheaper, this option is ideal for a day charter.

Services offered for your yacht charter in the Seychelles:

  • Bareboat yacht charter: this option allows you to rent a boat for a fixed period, generally by the day, week or month. You are then free to sail as you please and discover the wonders of the Seychelles in complete autonomy.
  • Yacht charter with skipper: If you have little or no sailing experience or you simply want to spend a relaxing vacation, Filovent offers you the option of renting your boat with a professional skipper. The skipper will know the sailing area and will show you some of the most beautiful places in the region.
  • Additional services: Many rental companies offer a wide range of additional services that you can book, such as fishing and diving equipment. You can also hire a crew if you wish, especially if you are renting a large boat, which usually includes a captain, a cook and a hostess. The crew will take care of you and make sure you have an unforgettable cruise!
  • Cabin cruise: You can book a cabin on board a high-end, people-sized boat that you will share with a few other travelers and a crew that will take care of your every need.

Where to sail in the Seychelles?

  • Praslin: If you decide to rent your boat from Praslin, don't pitch anchor too quickly and take the time to visit this magnificent island. Immerse yourself in the lush nature of the Vallée de Mai ecological reserve, a UNESCO World Heritage Site since 1983.
  • La Digue: Located just a few miles from Praslin and considered one of the most beautiful islands in the Seychelles, La Digue is a must-see on your cruise. It is home to the famousAnse Source d'Argent beach, considered by some to be the most beautiful beach in the world!
  • Curieuse: Located off the coast of Praslin,Curieuse Island is home to a large colony of giant tortoises, famous in the Seychelles, some of which are over 100 years old! You will have the opportunity to come across a large number of them at every turn. Feel free to scratch them under the mast top, it's the only place they can't reach and they love it. If you want to see babies, go to the turtle sanctuary nursery, they are adorable!
  • Cousin: Were you amazed by your visit to Curieuse with its astonishing biodiversity? Wait until you discoverCousin Island during your yacht charter. It is home to the most beautiful colony of seabirds in the Seychelles with thousands of different species including the Singing Magpie and the Seychelles Warbler, both endemic species! Also known asthe "bird island", take the time to stroll through this true ornithological sanctuary.
  • Coco: I strongly advise you to anchor your boat in the vicinity ofCoco Island. You are strictly forbidden to go ashore to protect its biodiversity, but the turquoise waters teeming with flora and fauna invite you to dive in with open spinnaker arms! The four small islands of the Coco Island National Marine Park are among the most beautiful in the Indian Ocean. Around this wild granite islet, you will feel like you are in an aquarium and will be able to swim among numerous fish, rays and sea turtles. Keep your eyes peeled, it is not uncommon to spot a whale shark!
  • Grande Soeur and Petite Soeur: With its beautiful hourglass shape,Grande Soeur Island is the place chosen by turtles to come and lay their eggs! Come and enjoy this amazing spectacle from the wonderful Grande Anse beach, renowned for its splendour. I invite you to climb to the top of the island for a breathtaking view of the others in the surrounding area. You won't regret it! It and its neighbor,Petite Soeur Island, belong to the hotel "Le Château de Feuilles, unique Relais & Châteaux" and can only be visited on organized excursions during the week.
  • Mahé: I have mentioned the most beautiful islands to discover around Praslin. You can also discover them on a cruise from Mahé. The largest island in the Seychelles is home to the capital, Victoria. It is known for its famous Clock Tower monument , botanical garden and colorful markets. Take the opportunity to stock up on typical products for your cruise!
  • Silhouette: Located 18 nautical miles northwest of Mahé,Silhouette Island is the perfect blend of hills covered with lush tropical flora, towering coconut palms at the side of the boat and beautiful white sand beaches. A change of scenery is guaranteed during your boat rental!

When to sail in the Seychelles?

There are two main seasons in the Seychelles. The cool season runs from May to October with temperatures ranging from 27°C to 30°C. This time of year is particularly favorable for sailing, with lighter winds and a very pleasant tropical climate. The prevailing wind, the southeast trade winds, blow at force 4 or 5, from 15 to 25 knots.

The wet season begins in December and ends in April. Rain is more frequent but the weather is generally very sunny. The Seychelles archipelago is located outside the cyclone zone and is therefore not affected by violent storms and thunderstorms like in The Caribbean. The trade winds blow from the northwest at force 3, 8 to 12 knots.

I recommend that you go sailing in the Seychelles during the months of transition between the wet season and the cool season (October, November, April and May). These are the best months to go sailing there because the rains are infrequent, the temperature is good and the prices are lower!

Bathers can enjoy water temperatures of between 26°C and 30°C all year round. When swimming, beware of the strong currents outside the lagoons!

Here is an average of the temperatures encountered in recent years in the Seychelles:

Our advice for a successful yacht charter in the Seychelles:

  • Familiarize yourself with local regulations: Before embarking on your sailboat charter, make sure you are familiar with the regulations in force in the region in terms of navigation zones, anchorages or protected areas.
  • Documents and formalities: If you are the skipper of the boat, make sure you have a boat license to present. In addition, we strongly advise you to take out damage waiver insurance even if you hire a skipper: in the event of damage to the boat, you are directly responsible, and damage waiver protects you from any involuntary damage.
  • What are the departure bases for sailing in the Seychelles? Your choice of departure base will depend on the sailing area you want to discover, but also on the duration of your cruise. It is quite possible to fully discover both areas in two weeks. Eden Island Marina is a very modern base located on an artificial island on the east coast of Mahé, between the airport and the island's capital, Victoria. Entirely man-made, you will find all the facilities and equipment you need: water, electricity, sanitary facilities, supermarkets, etc. Choose to leave from Mahé, as did the majority of our customers in 2022 (63%). Baie Sainte-Anne in the south of the island of Praslin is certainly less modern than Mahé, but remains the favorite choice of our customers in 2021 (54%). It is ideally located a few miles from the most beautiful islands!
