Athens catamaran charter with or without skipper

Last updated on 8 April 2025

Why rent a catamaran in Athens?

Renting a catamaran in Athens is an excellent way to start a cruise in Greece. Located to the west of the Saronic Gulf, the Greek capital is the starting point for a voyage to the nearby Saronic Islands and the Cyclades archipelago, a paradise for pleasure boating. Athens, the cradle of ancient civilization, is an exceptional port of call for its heritage assets. Surrounded by mountain ranges, Athens will delight history buffs with its important remains of ancient Greece.

The best places close-hauled to Athens

The most important tourist site in Athens, and one of the most visited in the world, isthe Acropolis. Listed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site, the remains of this ancient citadel and religious sanctuary proudly dominate Athens. You can visit other monuments dating from the 5th and 6th centuries BC, such as the remains of the temple of Athena, the Parthenon, the Erechtheion, or the theater of Dionysus, which saw the birth of ancient Greek tragedy. A catamaran charter in Athens will also allow you to enjoy beautiful anchorages and fine sandy beaches, on the Apollo Coast south of Athens, or by setting course for the island ofthe island of Paxos at Avlaki beach, at Marathonas beach on the island of Aegina, or at Psili Ammos beach on the nearby island of Salamis.

Useful tips for sailing close-hauled to Athens

Your catamaran charter in Athens will pass through the impressive port of Piraeus. Note that it is located about twelve kilometers from the center of Athens. Sailing in the Gulf of Athens takes place in very good temperatures and is subject to the Meltem wind. Despite this, the area is frequented by many pleasure boats from April onwards. To avoid the heat, it is advisable to sail close-hauled around Athens in spring or at the end of summer and in autumn. You can choose a catamaran charter with or without a skipper depending on your sailing desires and experience.
