Optional authentic excursion/experience: visit to Melk Abbey. A masterpiece of Gothic architecture,... see+ the abbey dominates the splendid Wachau valley. The ochre color of the grandiose façade is reminiscent of the Austro-Hungarian monarchy. The abbey's interior also boasts magnificent Baroque frescoes and a library containing some 100,000 volumes, including some of the most precious manuscripts of the Middle Ages.

Return on board and sail to Dürnstein, which we reach in the early afternoon. Discover this small medieval town, listed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site for its architectural heritage. The village is packed with sights, including the elegant baroque bell tower of the Dünstein church, the medieval and Renaissance facades of the town hall and the colorful houses in the main alley. Return to the ship in the late afternoon and continue on to Bratislava.

Early morning arrival in Bratislava. Optional excursions:
- Authentic: visit Bratislava. Situated... see+ at the foot of the Little Carpathians, Bratislava is surrounded by woods and rocks. Its castle, the city's emblem, stands on a hill above the Danube. From its forecourt, you can enjoy a unique view of the city and the river. The medieval old town is not to be outdone, with its maze of winding streets, squares, fountains and cafés. Bratislava is also known for its intense cultural and nightlife scene.
- Experience: hiking in the Little Carpathians, through the Devinska Kobyla nature reserve. This Slovakian nature reserve, just a few kilometers from the capital, takes you to the ruins of Devin Castle, from where you can enjoy a magnificent view of the Danube.

Afternoon sailing to Kalocsa. You'll pass the Gabcíkovo dam, one of the largest on the Danube. You'll sail past the protected landscape park of Dunajské Luhy, a marshland that is a crucial environment for rare bird species, one of the most important nesting areas and an exceptional ornithological territory.

Free time to explore Esztergom, the ancient Hungarian capital with its charm intact. Set on a hill,... see+ the city stretches peacefully along the banks of the Danube. The town has many unsuspected treasures, including the elegant Basilica, whose 177-meter-high silhouette overlooks the river, and the historic center of colorful houses.

Afternoon sailing to Vienna. The entire Hungarian section of the Danube is protected as a Natura 2000 site, providing vital habitats for endangered species. Further on, you'll see the Komarom fortress, a perfect example of Central European military architecture. Gala evening.

Morning optional excursions:
- Authentic: visit Schoenbrunn Palace and take a panoramic tour of... see+ Vienna. A prestigious court center in the 18th century, the castle's ochre facade is closely linked to the dual Austro-Hungarian monarchy. The splendid edifice is home to eminently refined imperial furnishings, and the spirit of the Habsburgs watches over the dazzling residence. Then take a panoramic tour of the famous boulevard known as "the Ring". You'll see the exceptional monuments built between 1830 and 1890 that give it its unique atmosphere.
- Experience Vienna as the Viennese do. You'll discover one of Vienna's most important concert venues, the famous Konzerthaus. Inaugurated in 1913 by Emperor Franz Joseph, since then tradition and innovation have constantly evolved to become one of the most popular venues for musical ensembles. Then it's off to one of the city's many cafés for a cup of Viennese coffee. You'll have to go back to imperial times to discover its origins. During the harsh winters, carriage drivers would drink a hot cup of coffee topped with whipped cream between each run, to keep them going. The "coachman's coffee" or "Einspänner" was later called Viennese coffee outside Austria.
In the afternoon, optional authentic excursion/experience: visit the Hofburg. Located in the historic heart of Vienna, the Hofburg is an astonishing sight. It exudes the sense of excess and splendor associated with imperial power. Nevertheless, it is a fascinating place for history and architecture enthusiasts. Today, the imperial apartments house the "Sissi" museum, where the seductive empress has become a cult figure adored by all.

In the evening, optional authentic excursion/experience: Viennese music concert (subject to availability). In a legendary Viennese venue, enjoy some of the finest works by Mozart and Strauss, and let yourself be transported to the rhythm of waltzes, polkas, arias...

Activities

Visit Melk Abbey
Departure by bus accompanied by the boat's hostess toMelk Abbey. The abbey guides will meet you in the inner courtyard to begin the tour. Overlooking the Danube, the abbey, which has been home to Benedictine monks for 900 years, was originally built as a... see+ fortified castle for the Babenberg family. The abbey was founded in the 11th century and the current Benedictine abbey buildings date from the Baroque period and are the work of architect Jakob Prandtauer. Melk Abbey houses a museum where you will discover various exhibits that have been brought to life through architecture, sound and light, and the use of various media. Computer animations tell the story of how the buildings were constructed. You will also visit the library and the marble hall, true gems of Baroque architecture. Return to the side of the boat by bus. NOTES Wear comfortable shoes: there is a staircase and 500m of paved path to walk from the bus parking lot to the abbey entrance. Depending on the cruise, the visit may take place in the afternoon or the morning. Proper attire is required. Depending on the sailing schedule, passengers will have some free time. Guided tour of Bratislava
Before becoming the capital of independent Slovakia in 1993, Bratislava was first the capital of Hungary from 1536 to 1784 under the name Pressburg. It then belonged to Czechoslovakia and became the capital of the "Slovak Socialist Republic," part... see+ of Czechoslovakia between 1969 and 1992. Accompanied by your guides, you will begin the tour with a panoramic tour of the city that will take you to Bratislava Castle ( exterior), dating from 1811, as the previous castle burned down. From there, you will have a stunning view of the Danube and the city. The main historical monuments are located in the old town, where the bus will drop you off to continue the tour on foot. You will enter through Michael's Gate, the only remaining gate dating back to the Middle Ages. Then you will head to the central square, with the elegant buildings hauled in on one side, some of which are Art Nouveau in style, dominated by the old Bratislava City Hall . You will continue the tour by discovering the Primatial Palace ( exterior), completed in 1781 for Archbishop Jozef Bathyány. As you wander the streets, you may come across some amusing statues that populate the capital. After the tour, you will have some free time and then return to the boat on foot or by bus, depending on the sailing schedule. NOTES Wear comfortable shoes: the streets are paved. Departure by bus to Devinska Nova Ves, and hike through the Devinska Kobyla nature reserve via Sandberg to the ruins of Devin Castle, where you will have a beautiful view of Bratislava. Puszta excursion
Depart Kalocsa by coach with your guide and head to Kiskunsag Park, in the heart of the Puszta. The Puszta, also known as the Great Plain, is a vast flat grassland that was considered the Wild West of Hungary in the 19th century, with huge herds of cattle... see+ grazing under the watchful eye of cowboys. The Puszta has been a World Heritage Site since 1999. During this tour, you will discover the Puszta, its breathtaking landscapes and surprising wildlife from horse-drawn carts, the region's picturesque means of transport. In a small part of the world's largest steppe, you will have the opportunity to seeraczka sheep with twisted horns, mangalica pigs with curly hair, and gray cattle with long horns, as well as rare bird species. During the visit, you will attend a presentation of regional equestrian traditions while tasting* " palinka " (plum brandy), " pogacsa " (small savory buns), and mineral water under the shelter of a thatched roof. The "csikos" horse guards, dressed in their blue canvas costumes, will perform amazing acrobatics in front of you and invite you to take part in their "games of skill." Guided tour of Budapest
Depart by coach, accompanied by your guides, and leave the pier for a panoramic tour of Budapest, known as the Pearl of the Danube.Your tour will begin on the Buda side, the hilly part of the city, which you will reach by crossing one of the famous decks over... see+ the Danube.You will then climb the castle hill to reach the Royal Palace (exterior), where you will enjoy a breathtaking view of the city. In the distance, you will see the Fisherman's Bastion, a monument that pays tribute to the origins of the Hungarians, with seven towers symbolizing the seven tents of the seven Magyar tribes.Your tour will then take you to Pest, the flatter and more modern part of the city. Depart by foot for Budapest's market halls. Budapest's Great Central Market Hall is the largest and most spectacular of the five market halls built in the 19th century. Under its sparkling roof of colorful Zsolnay tiles with zigzag patterns, it houses more... see+ than 180 stalls on three levels. Some locals travel for hours by tram to come to the Központi Vásárcsarnok. On the ground floor, there is an incredible display of food products, from fruit and vegetables to charcuterie and garlands of paprika. On the first floor, there are restaurants where locals and tourists mingle at the same table, and in the recently renovated basement, there is an exhibition of quality Hungarian products that can be purchased at the market. Visit to the Hofburg
Depart by bus with your guides to the Hofburg. The Hofburg is also known for having been the "winter residence" of the Habsburgs for close to 600 years. During their reign, they transformed a small 13th-century fortress into a huge and magnificent palace.... see+ Today, most of the buildings house museums, and the gardens, dotted with monuments, have become the Volksgarten and Burggarten. Take the imperial staircase to reach the Sissi Museum. Six rooms in the Hofburg have been converted to house the museum, which focuses mainly on Elisabeth's private life, highlighted by her poems that reveal her personality. You can admire many personal items that belonged to the empress, as well as a reproduction of the dress she wore at her farewell ball on the occasion of her engagement. Also on display are the most famous portraits, the beautiful empress's jewelry, and a partial reproduction of the luxurious carriage converted into a salon. You will arrive in the imperial apartments and have access to the 19 official and private rooms of Emperor Franz Joseph and Empress Elisabeth. The imperial apartments bear witness to the splendor of the monarchy. Among other things, you will see the emperor's audience chamber, his study, and his bedroom. Then you will visit the empress's apartments, with her salon, her dressing room, and her exercise room, where the empress did a great deal of physical exercise every day. Return to the boat by bus. Vienna city tour
Meet up with the guides for a foot tour of Vienne, during which you can discover this Roman city rich in historical remains. Vienne's history dates back more than 2,000 years. The city is inseparable from the Rhône River and the hills that surround it.... see+ The Allobroges people made it their capital, but it was during the Roman era that Vienne began to prosper on both banks of the river. You will see the ancient theater, built around 40-50 AD, which is considered one of the most important of Roman antiquity, with a diameter of 130 m and a capacity at the time estimated at 13,000 spectators. Restored in 1938, it has regained its original function as a venue for artistic events. You will continue on to the Temple of Augustus and Livia (exterior). Named as such since the end of the 18th century, this temple, dedicated to the cult of Rome and Augustus, stood in a sacred area on the forum. Its construction began around 20-10 BC; it was then converted into a church in the early Middle Ages and finally restored in the second half of the 19th century thanks to the intervention of Prosper Mérimée. Finally, to end this tour, discover Saint Maurice Cathedral (exterior), which has been classified as a historic monument since 1840. Return to the ship by foot.
