Cairo
After breakfast at the hotel, departure for the Giza Plateau, the symbol of ancient Egypt. This... see+ majestic site is home to the famous pyramids: that of Cheops, the largest, erected around 2650 BC, the only survivor of the Seven Wonders of the Ancient World and for a long time the tallest man-made monument at 146 metres; that of Chephren, which appears more imposing despite being slightly lower, thanks to its slope and position on higher ground; and finally that of Mykerinos, more modest at 66 metres high. Opposite these stone giants stands the Sphinx, the mysterious guardian of the tombs, sculpted from a single block of stone, 73 metres long and 20 metres high, facing east to protect the pyramids from looters.
After this immersion in Pharaonic history, lunch is provided near the pyramids before continuing with a visit to Memphis and Saqqara. Memphis, once the capital of the Old Kingdom, remains today only in the form of a few scattered vestiges, statues and an alabaster sphinx. A few kilometres away, Saqqara reveals a vast necropolis, including the funerary complex of King Djeser and his Step Pyramid, the first architectural attempt at perfect pyramids.
At the end of the day, return to the hotel for dinner. Depending on flight times, the night will be spent at the hotel or on board the plane.

After breakfast on board, departure for the fascinating Ptolemaic temple of Kom Ombo, a unique site... see+ in ancient Egypt. Perched on a hill 15 metres above the Nile, this exceptional temple is distinguished by its dual dedication: to Haroeris (*Horus the Great* or *Horus the Ancient*), the falcon god, and to Sobek, the fearsome crocodile god. This duality is reflected throughout the temple's architecture, with two entrances, two parallel corridors and symmetrically organised rooms leading to a double sanctuary. In front of the entrance, sculpted columns still bear traces of their original colours, testifying to the splendour of the Ptolemaic period. To the right of the temple, the chapel of Hathor houses a number of crocodile mummies, a reminder of the importance of the cult of Sobek in the region.

Thanks to a major UNESCO project, the monuments on the ancient island of Philae were dismantled stone by stone and rebuilt 400 metres downstream. This Ptolemaic temple has retained its Naos, the stone tabernacle that once housed the statue of the deity.
