Depending on your interests, you have three choices of excursions for the morning. Avignon, known... see+ as the "City of Popes," was the center of the Catholic Church in the 14th century. Take a guided walking tour of the Papal Palace and medieval walls, a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Visit three venues around Avignon to taste regional specialties, including macarons, cheese, wine, and tapenade, or enjoy a bike tour. In the afternoon, visit the Pont du Gard, a Roman aqueduct, or explore the hilltop village of Grignan. Search for prized “Black Diamond” truffles with a farmer and his dog or visit a winery in Châteauneuf-du-Pape, where you can tour the cellars and vineyards, followed by a wine tasting.

Considered one of the most beautiful cities in France, Arles enchants with its tantalizing history,... see+ once a Roman center of trade. Alternatively, enjoy a bike ride along the Rhône to the Langlois Bridge, featured in several Van Gogh paintings.
