Away from the busy shipping lanes, this picturesque island to the east of Bali has preserved its age-old culture passed down through oral tradition, and its mountainous terrain has preserved the diversity of its traditions. During your stopover in Maumere, you'll discover the charm of this buzzing little town in its paradise-like setting. Inland, you'll have the chance to visit traditional villages and markets.

Maumere Ile d'Alor
The inhabitants of the Alor archipelago, notably the Tapkala people, have preserved their... see+ traditional way of life: houses with woven bamboo walls covered with coconut leaves, bark or hand-woven clothing, dances... The island of Alor is also famous for its mokos, small prehistoric bronze drums which, according to legend, were found buried in the ground and whose provenance remains uncertain. These unique objects of great ritual importance to the locals are preserved at the interesting Thousand Mokos Museum in Kalabahi, the island's largest town. You'll visit the Tapkala village, the museum and the Kalabahi market.

Komodo Sumbawa
