Sailing itineraries

Oslo
Your expedition begins in Oslo, Norway's capital on the edge of the fjords. If you have time, why... see+ not explore the city centre for yourself. With its rich history and fashionable art scene, Oslo is a fascinating city. Here you'll find museums, galleries and breathtaking architecture, including the magnificent Opera House and the new Munch Museum.
Stroll through the Ekebergparken sculpture park, visit the Akershus fortress or relax in a floating sauna. Explore the modern town of Sørenga and enjoy urban beach life or try the new Nordic cuisine before spending the night in your Oslo airport hotel.

Oslo Longyearbyen
After an early morning flight from Oslo, your adventure begins with two nights in the world's most... see+ northerly town. A colourful frontier village where the locals outnumber the snowmobiles, you'll discover that Longyearbyen is a unique place on the edge of the Arctic wilderness.
Spend the next two and a half days exploring Longyearbyen and the surrounding area. The town is perfect for getting around on foot - stroll down the main street and you might see some Svalbard reindeer passing by. But don't worry, although wild, they are curious and tame.
To give you a broader perspective, local guides will take you around the area on an electric bike and show you the historical backdrop to the city on top of the world.
From the expedition centre, you'll leave the town and take an unpaved road to Hotellneset, which has a lake and the remains of the region's mining past. The very first hotel in Svalbard was built here by Hurtigruten pioneer Richard With, even before the modern town we see today was built.
We'll then return to Longyearbyen along the ‘Burma Road’, which was an important link for transporting coal from the port, while enjoying panoramic views. Sights along the way include an old funicular railway, the historic Svalbard Church and the ruins of the original town of Longyearbyen, which was bombed during the Second World War.

Longyearbyen Ny Alesund
Today you'll discover the serenity of Ny-Ålesund, a former mining town and one of the most... see+ northerly communities in the world, strategically located at the entrance to the magnificent Kongsfjord.
Coal deposits were claimed here in 1909. Mining began shortly afterwards with the support of investors from the Norwegian town of Ålesund, hence the name Ny-Ålesund. After operations ceased in 1962, the town was abandoned to its fate, until polar scientists realised that it would make a fantastic base for all kinds of Arctic research.
Today, it is an international centre for climate science and research, including China's Yellow River Station. You can still see remnants of the town's history, closely linked to Roald Amundsen's expeditions north with the airship ‘Norge’.
Enjoy a real day's break, as the proximity of the Norwegian Mapping Authority's geodetic station means we have to turn off our Wi-Fi and Bluetooth.
