Yacht charter

Last updated on 14 April 2025

A little-known but particularly idyllic archipelago in the Lesser Antilles, Anguilla is a British overseas territory north of Saint Martin. It consists of a main island, Anguilla Island, and small deserted islands, including Prickly Pear, Cays and Dog Island.

A yacht charter in Anguilla is therefore a great opportunity to explore this well-kept secret of the Caribbean by catamaran, with enchanting stopovers in the heart of paradisiacal bays.

But before setting out in the open sea, take the time to discover Anguilla Island and its capital, The Valley. Visit the island museum, delve into the history of salt production, and awaken your taste buds in the local restaurants!

The archipelago is a true haven of peace where calm and serenity are the key words, ideal for recharging your batteries between land and sea. Some places, such as Meads Bay, offer a picture-postcard setting, with a long white sandy beach and turquoise waters as far as the eye can see. On the beaches of Maundays Bay and Capitain's Bay, the setting is just as pleasant and lends itself to various water sports. Scuba diving enthusiasts can take advantage of their sailing trip to Anguilla to admire the tropical fish at the heart of the coral reef.

Discover the Caribbean island pearls

A true eldorado of nautical pleasure, the archipelago is an exceptional sailing area for enthusiasts. The region is home to several dream anchorages, including Road Bay, on the lee side of the coast, near the village of Sandy Ground, and Rendezvous Bay, whose stretch of white sand will thrill swimming enthusiasts. Further north, the coral archipelago of Prickly Pear also has a charming anchorage. The latter, located on the north coast of Prickly Pear East, offers an escape where the blue sky seems to want to embrace the turquoise waters that caress the shores of Anguilla. The island is oriented northeast/southwest, but it should be noted that while its northwest coast is protected from strong winds, its southeast coast is subject to the waves and winds of the Atlantic.

The strong points of yacht charter in Anguilla are the small island wonders that surround the main island. Less than two nautical miles from Road Bay, the astonishing islet of white sand called Sandy Island will offer you a moment of escape as rare as it is unusual. Home to a colorful hut that serves as a bar-restaurant, the place is particularly photogenic. With its immaculate beach dotted with coconut palms, it is sure to delight those who like to relax and enjoy a massage. You can also sample lobster grilled with lemon, veer into a game of beach volleyball, or take a sunny stroll in an enchanting setting that will bring you blissful mindfulness.

Sailing around Anguilla in a pleasure boat

Boasting a wilder nature preserved from mass tourism, Dog Island, located about 7 nautical miles northwest of Anguilla, is also a special stopover. On this lush 207-hectare land, boaters will feel like they are on Robinson Crusoe's virgin island. An anchored boat can be left in the vicinity of a pretty beach, which can then be reached by dinghy, although care should be taken when disembarking, as possible rollers may complicate the operation. Once you arrive at one of these sumptuous stretches of fine white sand, you will appreciate the exceptional vegetation and the fauna, including the birdlife, that is present.

But if your cruise program involves a tour of Anguilla, you will surely come across another little piece of paradise at the extreme northeast of the main island. This is Scrub Island, whose south-western coastline, on the lee side, is home to an anchorage that has all the ingredients for excellence: an area well protected from the wind, a magnificent beach with crystal-clear waters, beautiful vegetation and tranquillity. This private 8km2 islet, belonging to the Hodge family, also has the advantage of being uncrowded and only its beaches remain accessible to the public. In addition, don't forget that visiting Saint Martin by sailboat, to the south, is also a very interesting option. This island, which enjoys a good international tourist reputation, has everything that cruise passengers expect from a Caribbean vacation, including a variety of idyllic beaches (Maho Beach, Baie Longue, Orient Bay, etc.), magnificent sunsets and quality restaurants.
