Don't miss its museums, including the Domus, dedicated to the human species, the Bellas Artes with its 5,000 pieces and engravings by Goya, and the Casa de las Ciencias. The latter replaces the old municipal slaughterhouse and houses a beautiful Planetarium where you can admire the stars on a dome 10 meters in diameter.
To the north, the Tower of Hercules is the oldest lighthouse in the world still in operation, another unmissable gem. Built by the Romans, it has unfailingly guided sailors through the centuries and is now a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Climb its 242 steps to enjoy a panoramic view of the whole city. Maria Pita Square is the city's main square, surrounded by numerous buildings in an eclectic architectural style. It was named in honor of Maria Pita, a local Joan of Arc who is said to have actively contributed to repelling the English invasion in 1584.
