The Corinth Canal pierces the isthmus of the same name, turning the Peloponnese into an island by separating this region of Greece from the mainland. Inaugurated in 1893, the canal is just over six kilometers long, enabling commercial and tourist vessels with a draught of less than eight meters to avoid the 400-kilometer detour around the peninsula. Both sides of the canal reach a height of around 50 metres. From the outside decks, you can follow the ship's progress on this thin thread of water set between high ochre cliffs, a sight not to be missed.

A labyrinth of narrow streets, stepped passages, and small squares, the city has attracted many civilizations over the centuries. It is home to Greek theaters and a gymnasium, a Roman odeon and baths, Arab-Norman buildings, traces of Byzantine rule, and villas that belonged to European aristocracy in the 18th and 19th centuries.
Your excursion will begin with a walking tour of the historic city center. You will stroll along Corso Umberto Street and discover numerous monuments from various eras. Highlights include the Catania Gate, the cathedral, the Piazza IX Aprile, and the Palazzo Corvaja, before heading to the ancient theater.
The ancient theater was built in the 3rd century BC by the Greeks and later almost entirely rebuilt by the Romans, who turned it into an arena for gladiatorial combat. It is considered the second-largest theater in Sicily after Syracuse. Thanks to its size and excellent acoustics, the theater still hosts numerous festivals and concerts today. Spectators, seated on the stone tiers, can enjoy performances while admiring views of the sea, Mount Tauro, and Mount Etna.

Let yourself be seduced by the Altis, the sanctuary and cradle of cults and games, home to the oldest of the great Greek temples, a symbol of Doric architecture: the Temple of Hera. Nearby, the altar of Zeus stands proudly, receiving the offerings of believers. A row of 12 small votive temples, also called "treasure houses," are dedicated to Zeus and allowed the population to make offerings. Below the treasure houses, you can glimpse the remains of a series of sixteen statues of Zeus, funded by heavy fines imposed by Olympic judges on athletes who cheated or tried to win through dishonest means. Outside the Altis, there is a tunnel leading to the stadium and its grand 192.25-meter track, as well as the hippodrome where sporting events took place. Imagine yourself among the 40,000 spectators, filled with emotion as athletes competed in effort and excellence.

Walk the Sacred Way, the path once taken by pilgrims and kings of Antiquity, and embark on a journey out of... see+ time. Here, the history of Greece and its legends overflow from everything: the ruins and ancient monuments, but also from the surrounding nature, always sublime.
This is immediately evident at the Temple of Apollo. Built around the 7th century BC by two legendary architects, Trophonius and Agamedes, only a few remnants of this Doric monument remain today, which was once decorated with shields captured from the Persians. Yet, the foundations and columns still present seem to echo their grandeur in the surrounding mountains.
The same goes for the ruins of the Delphic Senate, as well as the remains of the Oracle of Delphi, where thousands of pilgrims gathered to receive the oracle of the Pythia, the priestess of Apollo. The ancient theater is also worth a visit.
Just a few steps from the Temple of Apollo, you can also discover the exhibits at the Delphi Museum, showcasing items found at the archaeological site for over a century. A UNESCO World Heritage site, the fortified Hosios Loukas... see+ monastery, near Delphi, is one of the most characteristic monuments of the second Byzantine golden age. Founded in the early 10th century by the hermit Saint Luke, it features a centrally planned church adorned with beautiful marble decorations and stunning gold-background mosaics. The main sanctuary is none other than the tomb of Saint Luke, originally located in the crypt.
Your excursion continues with a visit to Arachova. Built on the mountainside, this small town of 3,300 inhabitants is known for its traditional stone houses that climb the northern slopes of Mount Parnassus, between 800 and 1,100 meters above sea level. As you wander freely through the narrow streets, let yourself be charmed by the hospitality of the locals, the local crafts, and the cuisine. The town is famous for its wines, cheeses, and handwoven rugs and blankets.

From the quay, you will board your coach for a 45-minute journey towards Epidaurus. Located approximately 30 km east of Nafplion, Epidaurus is famous for its ancient theater. Considered one of the most important sanctuaries in the ancient world, Epidaurus was... see+ dedicated to the god of medicine Asclepius. World-renowned, the Epidaurus theater was built in the 4th century BC. This gem of harmony and acoustics is the best-preserved of the ancient Greek theaters. Built of limestone, it can accommodate 12,000 spectators.
At the end of this visit, you will return to your coach and head to the archaeological site of Mycenae. This site was the first to be excavated in-depth in 1876 by the famous German archaeologist Heinrich Schliemann, in his obsessive search for the tomb of Agamemnon. His diligent work uncovered the famous Lion's Gate, the only access to the city, behind which lies a cemetery containing the tombs of several nobles. A little further, you can see the "Beehive Tomb," named for its unusual vaulted shape.
Finally, you will return to Nafplion in 30 minutes.

From... see+ the port of Nafplio, a one-hour journey takes you to the renowned Corinth Canal. Stretching 6.4 km in length and 21 meters in width, it impresses with its sloping walls reaching up to 52 meters in height. Although construction began in 1881, the idea of linking the Ionian and Aegean Seas dates back to Roman times. At Isthmia, you will board a local boat for a canal crossing, with refreshments served on board.
Upon returning to Nafplio, visit Palamidi Castle, a beautifully preserved fortress overlooking the city. Its massive walls and fortifications made it an impregnable stronghold. From this strategic vantage point, enjoy an exceptional panoramic view of the Nafplio basin, the city, and the maritime fortress of Bourtzi. Built by the Venetians and Ottomans, the castle also served as a prison until recently.

Following a winding panoramic road, you will reach the Silvestri crater, located at around 1,950 meters above sea level. From there, admire breathtaking views: the crater itself, the impressive remnants of lava flows, and the stunning panorama of the Gulf of Catania, surrounded by forests, orchards, and vineyards.
Your excursion will continue with a visit to the Benanti winery, where you will discover the vineyard and the hall housing impressive oak barrels. You will then be invited to enjoy a traditional Sicilian brunch, accompanied by carefully selected local wines. A gourmet experience that will immerse you in the authentic flavors of Sicily.
The terrain of the ancient craters is uneven and sometimes slippery, and the winery visit includes some steps. We recommend wearing comfortable walking shoes, a warm sweater, and a windproof jacket for this excursion.
