River cruises and license-free boating in Briare

Last updated on 23 January 2024

Why opt for a yacht charter in Briare?

For a carefree family vacation, come and discover the city of enamels on a river cruise from Briare, a charming town in bloom known for its rich cultural and natural heritage. In the department of Loiret in the Centre-Val de Loire region, to the south-east of Orléans, the magnificent town of Briare awaits you for your next relaxing vacation on a river cruise on the Briare canal

What type of boat to rent in Briare?

We offer a wide range of river boats for charter in Briare. River boats are specially designed for canals, with a shallow draft and a width that allows them to pass easily through locks. They vary in size and capacity, ranging from boats with moorings alongside for a couple to those designed to accommodate several families or groups of friends. We work with a number of companies offering river cruises in the Loiret, such as Le Boat, Locaboat, Nicols and Canalous.

How much do river cruises cost in Briare?

The table below gives you an idea of the average prices for a river cruise in Briare, for a week. Note that these prices are a dead reckoning and may vary depending on several factors (season, model and size of the boat).

(July and August)

Mid-season

(May, June and September)

Low season

(April and October)

River boat with 3 cabinsFrom USD2300 per weekFrom USD2200 per weekFrom USD2100 per week
River boats with 4 cabinsFrom USD2500 per weekFrom USD2300 per weekFrom USD2200 per week
  • The price includes: the yacht charter and the main equipment on the side of the boat (crockery, Wi-Fi, bedding).
  • The price does not include: insurance, mooring fees, cleaning, extras (bicycles, etc.) and provisions taken on board.

We recommend that you take out our cancellation insurance for your river cruise. It will cover all members of the crew, whereas individual cancellation insurance or insurance via your bank card will only cover the policyholder. We also encourage our customers to take out damage waiver insurance. On a boat, damage can happen to even the best sailors. This insurance will allow you to recover a significant portion of your deposit in the event of damage related to navigation.

Where can you go on a river cruise when you charter a river boat in Briare?

  • Briare: Although touring is one of the essential ways to visit the cultural heritage of the town of Briare, a river cruise in Briare will also allow you to admire some magnificent architecture such as the famous Briare Canal Bridge. Take a break on the terrace to admire this beautiful architecture. This will give you the opportunity to taste the "cailloux de Briare", delicious chocolate-covered dried fruit. In addition to the canal bridge and its surroundings, the town is also full of 19th-century historical monuments such as the Château de Trousse-Barrière, which hosts a number of exhibitions, and the Romano-Byzantine-style church of Saint-Étienne de Briare. Continue your historical tour at the Mosaic and Enamel Museum or the 2 Marines Museum. Close-hauled to the church, an open square hosts the weekly Briare market every Friday morning. As a stopover town on the Loire à Vélo cycle route, Briare is equipped with cycle paths along the river.
  • Rogny-les-Sept-Écluses: This is a French commune in the department of Yonne, in the Burgundy region. Every last Saturday in July, a fireworks display famous throughout the region takes place in Rogny-les-Sept-Écluses. The population of the commune then multiplies by 20! This show takes advantage of the famous locks and plays with the reflections of the canal to provide an event that is both technically and artistically impressive.
  • Châtillon-sur-Loire: The name of the town comes from "Castellio", which means small fortress. The town was first called Châtillon and then Châtillon-sur-Loire. The double name has been in use since at least the middle of the 16th century. Why not take a river cruise in Burgundy to explore this historic region in depth?
  • Ménétréol-sous-Sancerre:This commune offers landscapes of woods, hillsides where vines are cultivated, and an alluvial plain favorable to cattle and goat farming as well as to cereal production. The canal lateral to the Loire, the courses of the rivers La Vauvise and Le Moule cross the commune parallel to the departmental road D 920.

When is the best time to go on a license-free yacht charter in Briare?

In summer, the weather is warm and sunny, which is ideal for swimming and water sports. However, the canal is very busy, which can make navigation more difficult and less pleasant. We recommend that you go in May or September, when the weather is generally mild and sunny, allowing you to fully enjoy your trip. In addition, there are fewer people than in summer, allowing you to enjoy a more peaceful and relaxing stay. Please be aware that some sections of the canals may be closed or have a reduced flow rate in winter, generally between December and February, for maintenance or water level reasons. It is therefore advisable to inquire before planning your trip during this period.

Here is an average of the temperatures encountered on the canals of the Loiret in recent years:

TemperaturesJanFebAprMayJuneJulyAugSepOctNovDec
Air min (°C)10°14°15°15°12°
Air max (°C)13°17°C19°23°26°26°23°18°13°

Our advice for a successful river cruise in Briare:

  • The locks: Some are manual and others are automatic, the lock keepers will be happy to help you! As on all French canals, night navigation is not permitted.
  • Pets on board: River boat rental companies allow pets (dogs, cats, rodents) on board. Some do so free of charge, while others charge a flat rate of around 50 USD (80 USD at LeBoat).
