Baye is an excellent point from which to explore the Nivernais canal and the charming towns and villages of the Nièvre. The beauty of the landscape, the historical sites and monuments, the culture, the flora and fauna, and the activities will make your cruise with family or friends an unforgettable adventure!
A region of history and culture
The yacht charter in Baye will allow you to stop in magnificent villages, such as Châtillon-en-Bazois and Corbigny, and to contemplate numerous monuments, notably the church of Saint-Jean-Baptiste from 1868 with its neo-Romanesque style, the castle of Châtillon-en-Bazois, inhabited since the 900s, and the Abbey of Saint-Léonard in Corbigny.
Before continuing your pleasant river cruise, why not take a gourmet break and sample some Nièvre specialties. Enjoy the delicious Nièvre autumn salad made with walnut kernels, grapes and olives, or the famous œuf en meurette, an egg cooked in red wine with bacon, onions and shallots.
Breathtaking nature and fun activities
Nature also has a lot to offer to pleasure boaters. Along the Nivernais canal, you can easily reach the Baye and Vaux ponds. Located in the center of the Bazois, the site was created at the end of the 18th century to supply the Nivernais canal. Today, it is a place that will enchant you thanks to its impressive biodiversity, but also thanks to the various activities on offer.
Thanks to the diversity of its flora and fauna, the Baye and Vaux ponds have been classified as a Sensitive Natural Area. In a landscape dominated by reeds, willows and seagrass beds, you can observecountless species of birds, such as mallards, gray herons, common coots, common teals, Eurasian coots and even horned grebes.
The site is also a good place for fishing, as the ponds are home to various species of fish, such as crayfish, predatory fish and eels. You can also choose from a range of fun activities (swimming, sailing, canoeing, kayaking, stand-up paddleboarding, pedal boating or mountain biking). There are leisure centers for younger children, with riding arenas and bouncy castles.
