Yacht charter in Toulon with or without a skipper

Last updated on 24 October 2024

The types of boats to rent in Toulon

Depending on your budget and your sailing plans, there are various types of boats available for your cruise from Toulon:

  • Monohull sailboat charter: a monohull sailboat will offer you a more sporty experience and allow you to reach secret coves only accessible by sea. For adventure and thrill seekers, a monohull sailboat is for you.
  • Catamaran charter: if you are looking for a relaxing cruise and want space and comfort on your trip, we highly recommend a catamaran charter, which offers greater stability.
  • Motor yacht charter: more accessible and cheaper, this option is ideal for a day charter.

The services offered for your yacht charter in Toulon:

  • Bareboat yacht charter: this option allows you to rent a boat for a fixed period, generally by the day, week or month. You are then free to sail as you please and discover the wonders of the region in complete autonomy.
  • Yacht charter with skipper: If you have little or no sailing experience or you simply want to spend a relaxing vacation, Filovent offers you the option of renting your boat with a professional skipper. The skipper will know the sailing area and will show you some of the most beautiful places in the region.
  • Additional services: Many rental companies offer a wide range of additional services that you can book, such as fishing and diving equipment. If you wish, you can also hire a crew, especially if you rent a large boat, which usually includes a captain, a cook and a hostess. The crew will take care of you and make sure you have an unforgettable cruise!
  • Cabin cruise: You can book a cabin on the side of the boat of a high-end, people-friendly boat that you will share with a few other travelers as well as a crew that will take care of your every need.

Where to sail from Toulon?

  • The Hyères islands: Porquerolles, Port-Cros, Île du Levant and Île de Bagaud, to the east of Toulon, form part of the Hyères islands archipelago. These islands, which are very popular with holidaymakers during the summer season, are attractive thanks to their translucent waters, all surrounded by lush, unspoiled nature.
  • The Embiez archipelago: The Embiezarchipelago , to the west of Toulon, consists of five islands: Embiez, Grand Rouveau, Petit Rouveau, Grand Gaou and Petit Gaou. The must-see of this archipelago is the Île des Embiez, owned by Paul Ricard since 1958. It is above all the natural diversity that will amaze you once you are there. Between the pine forests, the old salt marshes, the wild creeks, the vineyards, the green valleys: a large part of the Mediterranean's riches is concentrated there!
  • The rocky inlets that stretch from Marseille to Cassis: the Calanques massif is a natural wonder nestled between Marseille and Cassis. Turquoise waters, wild coves, sandy or pebble beaches, lush nature: the Calanques will guarantee you relaxation and a change of scenery. Nevertheless, to preserve this exceptional environment as much as possible, they have been protected as part of the Calanques National Park since 2012.

When to sail in Toulon?

There is little to say about the temperatures because they are generally mild throughout the year in the South of France.

As for wind conditions, you may encounter two types of wind while sailing. On the one hand, there is the thermal breeze, a wind created by the difference in temperature between the sea and the land when it is hot. This wind generally picks up in the afternoon and dies down in the evening, which is ideal for sailing. On the other hand, the Mistral, a Mediterranean wind, can make sailing a bit sporty. It blows in gusts that can reach 100 kilometers per hour. We advise you to anticipate the wind conditions and adapt your sailing itineraries accordingly.

Here is an average of the temperatures encountered in recent years in Toulon:

Our advice for a successful yacht charter in Toulon:

  • Familiarize yourself with local regulations: Before embarking on your sailboat charter, make sure you are familiar with the regulations in force in the region in terms of navigation zones, anchorages or protected areas.
  • Documents and formalities: If you are the skipper of the boat, make sure you have a boat license to present. In addition, we strongly advise you to take out damage waiver insurance even if you have a skipper: in the event of damage to the boat, you are directly responsible, and damage waiver protects you from any unintentional damage.
  • What are the departure bases from Toulon? There are two ports: the Vieille Darse port and the Darse Nord port. As the port Darse Nord is a technical port where boats are repaired, you will depart from the port Vieille Darse. Located in the heart of the city of Toulon, the port Vieille Darse has the advantage of being close-hauled to all urban amenities and services (train station and bus station 15 minutes on foot). Various services are available on site: Wi-Fi, showers, toilets, electricity, provisions taken on board. It is strategic to leave from the port of Toulon because it occupies a central position in relation to the Calanques of Marseille to the west and the Hyères islands to the east.
