Gallipoli is a port that seems to come straight out of a fairy tale because of the castle with its imposing keep that dominates it. The historic center is located on a small limestone island, connected to the new town by a deck. A yacht charter in Gallipoli allows you to sail along the Riviera to admire the series of buildings dating from the 17th and 18th centuries. And to discover all their beauty in detail, it is recommended that you put your feet on the ground and stroll through the streets surrounding the baroque cathedral of Sant'Agata. The church is richly decorated and contains, among other things, sublime paintings by Giovanni Andrea Coppola, a local painter trained in Naples.
The Church of the Purità is also worth a visit, with its interior decorated with sumptuous stucco work. The ceiling and walls are completely covered with paintings depicting scenes from the Apocalypse. The church of San Francesco d'Assisi will impress lovers of sacred art even more with its two very realistic statues by Vespasiano Genuino, representing the two thieves crucified at the same time as Christ. The walk will be most pleasant, thanks to the many palaces with Baroque and Rococo facades, and to the ancient Greek fountain located at the entrance to the city. The bas-reliefs are composed of fine sculptures reproducing scenes from Greek mythology.
