Once on the ground, it is difficult to resist the urge to stroll through its peaceful cobbled streets. During your stroll, you will have the opportunity to admire some of the ancient buildings, such as the Turkish house, built in the 14th century, and the Roman house, built in the 18th century.
Your stroll through the heart of the village will also take you to the parish church of Saint-André-l'Apôtre, built in the 12th century. Its fort and its castle, built in the 16th century, also deserve special attention.
Bakar and its surroundings
A stopover in Bakar not only allows you to immerse yourself in its history. It is also an excellent point of departure for continuing your little historical interlude in the comitat of Primorje-Gorski Kotar. This Croatian comitat is home to a number of interesting towns such as Kraljevica, with its castles of Nova and Frankopan.
Embellishing the east coast of Istria, the city of Rijeka, located a few minutes from Bakar, reveals its precious historical heritage to you, such as the baroque-style Cathedral of St. Vitus of Rijeka, the old Roman gate dating from Antiquity or the former Governor's palace built in 1892 under the governance of Lajos Batthyány.
You can also enjoy strolling around the famous Trsat Castle overlooking the city of Rijeka. This ancient fortress dating from the 13th century offers you a breathtaking view of the town with the bright blue sea in the background.
Have fun in the Primorje-Gorski Kotar county
The county of Primorje-Gorski Kotar doesn't just open the doors to the history of Croatia. Hauled in by the Adriatic, this region also boasts a preserved natural environment that lends itself readily to many fun activities.
In addition to long walks through the peaceful streets of Bakar and the surrounding area, you will also be invited to enjoy the pleasures of the sea. The Primorje-Gorski Kotar county is also home to a number of renowned islands where a whole range of activities await you.
From the port of Bakar, set a course for the island of Krk. Embellishing Kvarner Bay and offering excellent anchorages, Krk is a must for swimming enthusiasts. You will discover magnificent beaches such as Porporela, caressed by crystal-clear waters, or Redagara, perfect for our four-legged friends.
Water skiing and wakeboarding can be enjoyed in the open sea off Punat, while fans of nautical tourism and sailing will appreciate their stopover on the island of Lošinj, part of the Cres-Lošinj archipelago.
