Yacht charter

Last updated on 8 April 2025

Located in the southwest of France, the Gironde benefits from numerous tourist attractions, as well as several facilities to the delight of boaters and sailing enthusiasts.

Considered the largest department in mainland France, the Gironde is indeed adorned with a particularly rich natural and historical landscape that you can discover at your leisure during a yacht charter in the Gironde. For lovers of beautiful sandy beaches, you can easily reach one of the many beaches along the Gironde coastline. Similar to the beaches of the Landes, the beaches located in the north of the department are simply an invitation to relax with their long dunes protected by pine forests. The beach at Soulac-sur-Mer, for example, is in the heart of unspoiled countryside and has numerous hiking trails. The beaches of Arcachon are very popular with those seeking tranquility and luxury, while the beaches of Pyla-sur-Mer rival these beautiful exotic beaches in their beauty.

And if you'd like to discover the historical heritage of the Gironde, a little stroll through the renowned towns is a must! The cathedral of Bazas and the castles of the town of Roquetaillade are certainly among the must-sees.

Where can you find the most beautiful beaches in the Gironde?

Revealing immense sandy beaches and dunes hauled in by the sides of the boats, similar to those that line the coast of the Landes, the Gironde coastline stretches for 126 km from the Arcachon Basin to Verdon-sur-Mer. Highly coveted by surfers, sailing enthusiasts and hikers, the oceanic beaches are an invitation to daydream and escape. In the north of the department, the beaches of Verdon-sur-Mer and Soulac-sur-Mer follow one after the other, quickly taken over by surfers. at Hourtin-Plage, families meet up on the children's island while nature lovers discover the wild character of Pin Sec beach, lined with a pine forest.

Shallow, warm and very long, the beaches of Arcachon are among the most famous in the Gironde. People come here all year round to enjoy a bay sheltered from the Atlantic swells. Whether lively or peaceful, the beaches of Arcachon also offer magnificent panoramas such as Moulleau beach where you can see the famous Dune of Pyla, Cap Ferret and the Arguin sandbank. in Pyla-sur-Mer, you will be quickly tempted by a long walk on the highest dune in Europe, 177 meters high.

And the best sailing itineraries?

Boaters won't need to stray too far from their sailboat to go on a bike ride. Want to stretch your legs? Drop anchor at the port of Verdon-sur-Mer, the point of departure for the famous Vélodyssée in the Gironde. The most daring will travel the 170 km separating the town of Verdon from the Bassin d'Arcachon with the Atlantic as a backdrop. There are also plenty of ideas for walks around the Bassin d'Arcachon, giving keen walkers the opportunity to trudge through the maritime pine forests.
