Overview of the beaches of Larmor-Plage
Opening onto the Atlantic Ocean, the seaside resort of Larmor-Plage has six beaches that can be explored on foot or by sailboat. There's something for everyone! For those who like crowds and a variety of activities, Port-Maria beach offers 400 meters of fine sand. Its promenade is lined with bars and restaurants where you can treat yourself to a delicious gastronomic interlude. For water sports, such as windsurfing, kitesurfing and sea kayaking, head for Kerguélen beach. This one-kilometer sandy beach is home to a water sports center and several events, including regattas that will delight sailing enthusiasts.
close to the city center are the beaches of Nourriguel, Locqueltas and Toulhars, which at low tide is a favorite playground for beach volleyball enthusiasts. Those who prefer peace and quiet can spread their towels on the beach at Kerpape, to the west of the city. This fine sandy beach is certainly small, but has the advantage of being uncrowded.
A day at Larmor-Plage
For those on land, Larmor-Plage also offers fun and relaxation. Sundays are enlivened by the traditional market, which is held in the main square. During the week, people gather on the long promenade of Port Maria, which offers a magnificent view of the harbor of Lorient and the island of Groix. Walks in Larmor-Plage are also enhanced by visits to a number of ancient monuments such as the 18th-century Notre-Dame fountain and the Kernével fort, built in 1961 and facing the citadel of Port-Louis. Completing the defensive system established at the entrance to Lorient harbor, the Kernével fort now hosts several conferences on the theme of the sea, which are open to the public.
