Yacht charter

Last updated on 8 April 2025

If you are planning a short sailing cruise in Greece, we recommend Kalamata for your yacht charter. A charming little port town hauled in at the side of the boat of the Peloponnese, Kalamata appears like a magnificent haven of peace that simply invites you to unwind and relax.

Enjoying a Mediterranean climate, this charming seaside resort has a favorable climate that allows you to veer towards all your favorite activities, especially in summer. Water sports enthusiasts will enjoy taking a few short boat trips to the island of Zakynthos, for example, or to the beautiful sandy beaches of Loutraki, located about a hundred kilometers from Kalamata.

But what certainly makes Kalamata special are its historical remains, which embellish the natural landscape of the city. Currently occupying the site of the ancient Laconian city of Pharis, Kalamata is adorned with an architecture strongly influenced by the Turkish invaders who occupied the city for almost a hundred years.

So, during a stroll through the city, you can admire some magnificent architectural works such as the Church of the Apostles or the fortress built in the northeast of the city under the orders of Geoffrey I of Villehardouin.

On the paths of time

A charming city teeming with life, Kalamata knows how to entertain its visitors, who will go from marvel to marvel as they stroll through its lively streets. Immerse yourself in this magnificent open-air museum and let yourself be surprised by its most beautiful tourist attractions, such as the church of Ypapanti, with its silver domes, sparkling above the city. Heading north from the church, you will come across the Conservatory, proudly overlooking Alexandraki Street. Kyriakou mansion, dating from the 19th century, stands between Ioannou and Kiriakou and houses the historical and folklore museum, where you can get a glimpse of the daily life of the town's inhabitants. Take a little historical break on Othonos Square, which was once the site of Kalamata's central market.

Something for everyone

By day or by night, Kalamata invites you to enjoy its lively atmosphere. Shopping and fresh produce enthusiasts will find at the end of their strolls a few markets that are well worth a visit, such as the Thieves' Market, held every Thursday morning in Athinon. You will find everything there at reasonable prices. The big food market is held every Saturday and Wednesday morning. You'll find sun-kissed fruit and vegetables, fresh fish and local produce.

Gourmets will take the opportunity to linger in the lively taverns to sample some local delicacies such as Turkish delight, Galaktoboureko and Saganaki, fried cheese with olive oil. at nightfall, the whizzing cars, the rousing music and the dazzling lights herald the start of a long, wild night in Kalamata.

Adventurers will take advantage of its proximity to the famous beach of the Gulf of Messinia for a little escape to the sea. Cruise passengers can sail the Ionian Sea or venture into the Saronic Gulf, dotted with magnificent islands such as Hydra.
