Your volcanic hikes
Hiking on Ischia is also a different way of exploring this volcanic land, offering panoramic views of the island. The Cretaio, Carusiello and Marecoppo estates are among the must-sees. A few remarkable sites such as the Lava dell'Arso, a remnant of the 1302 eruption, will entertain budding volcanologists. Stretching over more than 2.7 km, this lava flow completely destroyed the ancient city of Geronda and forms Punta Molina.
The most daring will tackle Mount Epomeo, which rises to 789 meters above sea level. Allow about 2 hours of walking time starting from the small town of Serrara Fontana. less than 75 meters from the summit, white lava flows. This fairly strenuous climb is quickly forgotten at the sight of the breathtaking panorama overlooking the Sorrento Peninsula and the island of Capri from its summit.
