A town belonging to the district of Oberhavel, in north-eastern Germany, Fürstenberg enjoys a prime location, directly on the river Havel. The lakes that surround it also give it a beautiful sailing trim. As a spa town, travelers come here mainly for nautical tourism. However, you will be surprised to discover an exciting cultural city.
Travel to Fürstemberg along the water
Choose between the river Havel and the lakes of Baalensee, Schwedtsee and Roblinsee and have fun as you please! Combine your activities with a yacht charter in Fürstemberg for a complete dream vacation.
At Roblinsee lake, enjoy swimming, windsurfing and kitesurfing in a wooded environment. The lake is also an ideal starting point for excursions through the Mecklenburg region. The smaller Baalensee is particularly suitable for fishing. Finally, the picturesque scenery of the Schwedtsee, surrounded by reeds and adorned with water lilies, will enchant you. It is also suitable for fishing, but it is usually used as a means of access to the town of Ravensbrück.
Boat trips on the Havel River last longer. It will be an ideal opportunity to admire its diverse landscapes. Sailing itineraries on the Havel lead to Himmelpfort and Bredereiche. In Bredereiche, you can veer off to go rafting and in Himmelpfort, an incredible visit to the garden of the senses awaits you. Longer circuits lead to Lake Müritz in the north and Zehdenick in the south.
Choose July to get more out of your stay. It will also be a good opportunity for partygoers to attend the Brandenburg water festival.
The cultural attractions of Fürstemberg
For your cultural experience, go to the city center to admire the huge Protestant church in the Romantic neo-Gothic style, built in 1845. Then continue north of the old town to Fürstenberg Castle. This rococo-style castle, converted into a hotel, once served as the Reich insurance office and hospital.
20 kilometers from Fürstenberg stands Tornow Castle, which hosts ecological conferences. Hikes in the Uckermarck Nature Park can be organized from the castle. While in Tornow, be sure to visit the church, which dates from 1837-1838.
