If I rent a boat with a skipper, can I spend every night in an anchorage?
Updated on: 26/05/2025No, that is neither realistic nor desirable.
- Not realistic: you must be aware that anchoring requires constant vigilance on the part of your skipper, as the anchor can slip. During a night at the anchorage, the skipper will sleep with one eye open and won’t really get any rest, especially if the area is rocky. A skipper generally agrees to 2 or 3 nights at the anchorage each week, depending on the length of the day’s sailing.
- Not recommended, especially if this is your first cruise: after one or two days of sailing, you will undoubtedly long for the comfort of a port that will allow you to:
- spend a quieter night without rolling;
- access to proper restroom facilities;
- to enjoy an evening stroll and a meal at a restaurant;
- to refill your fresh water supply.
