Is there hot water on board?
Updated on: 26/05/2025 Yes, you have hot water on board for washing dishes or taking a shower.
- When you’re in port and connected to shore power, the water heater runs on electricity from the port.
- When you’re underway, the engine heats the hot water tank (via a heat exchanger connected to the cooling system). If you’re at an anchorage or sailing on a sailboat, you’ll need to run the engine for a short while before using hot water.
Some luxury boats are equipped with a generator; in this case, you have your own power supply and can use hot water at any time. To find out what equipment is on board, please check your boat’s specifications, accessible via your booking confirmation in the customer portal.
Note: For safety reasons, water heaters on boats for yacht charter never run on gas.
