In which country should I rent a boat to visit the Greek Dodecanese?
Updated on: 28/07/2025For a cruise in the Greek Dodecanese, we highly recommend renting a Greek boat!
In fact, many Turkish rental companies do not allow their customers to sail in Greece for a variety of reasons. Our destination specialist, Lina, notes that the main reasons are
- a tax on entering Greek territory
- the inability to call in a team to repair the boat on-site due to the change of country in the event of a technical issue
- the sometimes tense geopolitical relations between Greece and Turkey
- the lengthy administrative process for charter companies to obtain authorization to operate in Greek waters.
However, if you really want to depart from Turkey to visit the Greek Dodecanese, it is entirely possible provided you find the right charter company: in that case, please don’t hesitate to contact us so we can help you find the right partner! For departures, we recommend the Bodrum base, which is only 11 nautical miles from the Greek island of Kos—just under 2 hours of sailing.
If you prefer to depart from Greece, you can choose from the 282 boats available! At Filovent, we offer departures from two bases: the port of Kos or the port of Rhodes.
