Where can I stay overnight during a river cruise?

Updated on: 26/05/2025
You have several options:
  1. Tied to stakes: drive your stakes into the grass on the side of the boat (this is permitted almost everywhere unless otherwise indicated), and tie up to those stakes. The only precautions: do not park at the exit of a bend, and do not run ropes across the towpath along the waterway, so as not to obstruct passage. This option is available almost everywhere on all canals. Note that this is neither possible nor advisable on certain natural rivers (such as the Lot) due to the current.
  2. At a port or river stop: this option generally requires a fee (expect around twenty USD), but it is also the most comfortable. River ports usually offer showers and restrooms for boaters. You can also connect to the port’s electricity to use 220V power as needed and refill your fresh water tanks.
