Having been home to several civilizations over the centuries, since 2000 BC, Port Mahón is home to a valuable archaeological heritage. During a short stroll through the city, you can observe some Talayots, tower-shaped megaliths, testifying to the existence of ancient civilizations. The old town of Mahón is also an interesting place to stop and admire the bourgeois residences and old historic buildings overlooking the squares of San Francesc, Colón and Conquesta.
It is precisely in the Plaza d'España that you can admire beautiful ancient architecture such as the church of Santa María, built in the 13th century. The church, which is in the Gothic style, is the largest on the island and has an organ dating from the 19th century.
